Crawling for Reid

Crawling for Reid 2015 Charity Ride was held to benefit Reid Davis Underwood. In this video, Tom talks about this charity event, Reid, and the awesome off road community that has pulled together to raise over $30,000 for Reid! Thank you to all who came out and donated to this charity. Together we can make a difference!

Reid Davis Underwood was born on May 20, 2014 in Atlanta, GA. The pregnancy was just as normal as the two previous pregnancies with Reid’s older sister, Avery (5) and older brother, Barrett (3). When Reid was born, he was missing most of the skin on both feet, the skin on one shin up to his knee, the backs of his hands and a large spot on his back. Soon after, the delivering hospital transferred Reid to CHOA Egleston Hospital, where Reid was admitted to the NICU for 2 weeks. At that time, a biopsy test result confirmed the family’s worst fears that Reid had what is considered one of the worst types.

Reid is preparing for a clinical trial at the University of Minnesota, where Dr. Jakub Tolar is performing Bone Marrow Transplants for this condition. This procedure will give Reid healthy stem cells that will be able to create Collagen VII, which he is missing. While this is not a cure, it will offer Reid the best quality of life and prepare him for future treatments or cures. We just want Reid to be able to live without pain and to be able to play and have fun with his brother and sister one day without getting these painful blisters all over his body. Reid is also effected internally and just the simple act of eating causes severe blisters in his mouth. No child deserves to live in this much pain. He is such a sweet boy and laughs at his brother and sister when they dance and sing around him. Even though he lives in such pain he is a constant inspiration to our family when he smiles and laughs. We want to fight for this little boy because he deserves it.

The money raised will go towards Reid's. Bone Marrow Transplant costs and post-surgery costs which are extremely high and while insurance will cover some costs, there are many other medically required supplies and treatments that are unimaginably high. Thus, our ambitious goal is to help this child through his long journey for a better quality of life and to raise awareness of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) for others in need.
